Guidance on Discipline for Students with Disabilities
The US Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services and Office for Civil Rights issued long-awaited guidance on discipline for students with disabilities in the form of Dear Colleague Letter(s).
This guidance asks schools to fulfill their obligations under IDEA and develop positive approaches to supporting students’ behavior in order to break the cycle of exclusionary discipline for students with disabilities.
