Dr. Wood

Dr. David Wood joined the TNSTEP Board of Directors in 2024. He is an academic pediatrician, recently retired from East Tennessee State University, and remains active in clinical practice.

Dr. Wood was first introduced to TNSTEP through his work with children and youth with ADHD and autism. Throughout his career, he frequently referred families to TNSTEP for guidance on navigating the special education system and advocating for appropriate services. He has seen firsthand the impact of equipping parents with the knowledge and tools to effectively support their children.

His connection to the disability community is both professional and personal. Dr. Wood has two sisters with intellectual disabilities, including one with autism, and has been involved with parent organizations for more than 30 years.

He serves on TNSTEP’s Government Affairs Committee and is committed to helping the organization grow its reach and impact across Tennessee.

Dr. Wood shares this message with families: Welcome! Get involved. There are opportunities to support the work of TNSTEP at many levels. You can find your place. Most importantly you can spread the word of what TNSTEP can do to parents of children who need accommodations or an IEP in school, or who are transitioning to adult life.
